A Complete Wedding Stationery Checklist
Lucca Studios – Journal Feature
You’ve picked out the perfect venue, created the guest list, and are already looking into all kinds of wedding suppliers… Now, it’s time for the most exquisite part of the experience – creating the wedding stationery suite.
Given my experience, couples love to design their stationery, as it allows their attention to detail to align seamlessly with their chosen theme.
But the beginning of this process is not always straightforward. For many couples, the first question usually is “What is included in wedding stationery?”
Well, there’s no really formal answer to this. Couples have different needs, so their wedding stationery suite is unique. But since you’ll order a lot of paper goods this time, it’s very easy to lose track of everything.
That’s why I created this wedding stationery checklist to help you ensure thorough tracking of every detail.
Essential Wedding Stationery
As previously mentioned, every suite is different, but the essentials have to be included. In other words, the experience all starts with essential wedding stationery. Everything else comes down to your choice.
With that said, here is a wedding stationery checklist of the must-haves:
Save-the-Dates
Wedding Invitations
Table Plan/Escort Cards
Table Numbers/Signs
Place Cards
Save-the-Dates
It all starts with the save-the-date cards. Here you don’t need to include a lot of information – only the basics. Generally, you need to list the soon-to-be-weds’ names, the location (city) where the celebration will be held, and the date of the wedding. You should send save-the-dates a 12 months before the wedding, longer if you’re hosting it in a further destination. This will give more than enough time for your guests to prepare.
Wedding Invitations
While some couples choose to omit save-the-dates from their wedding stationery suite, invitations are a must. Undoubtedly, this is the most exciting part for my couples – it’s when I see their creativity flourish, allowing them to fully develop their theme and colour palette by exploring countless fine finishes.
Here, you’re including the essentials in a more detailed way. Namely, you should add the wedding hosts, date, time, venue, and city.
Also, don’t forget to include RSVPs. This will give you a clear indication on who’s coming and whether they’re bringing an extra guest. RSVPs can be gathered either be digitally or postal, so choose the option that best fits your wedding.
Table Plan/Escort Cards
With so many details coming together, creating a natural flow is key to a beautifully considered wedding day. A carefully planned table plan can take the weight off. These plans contain all the tables with their assigned numbers and guests, allowing your ushers to easily guide your loved ones to their seats.
Table Numbers/Signs
Each table should have a number or a distinctive name, making it easy for guests to find their seats. But beyond their practical purpose, table numbers are another opportunity to bring personality into your stationery and continue your wedding design beautifully across the tablescape.
Place Cards
Place cards mainly serve to show your guests where they’re seated, but they can be much more than that! When you pair them with menus, thank-you cards, and other thoughtful paper goods, they can easily become one of the most personalised keepsakes of the entire wedding.

Having worked as a stationery designer for over 250 weddings, I’m always amazed at how above and beyond couples go for their stationery suite. They see the world of paper as their oyster, meaning their freedom to create whatever they desire is practically limitless.
